Alice Wong, Member of Parliament for Richmond has been appointed Minister of State (Seniors) in the new cabinet of Prime Minister Stephen Harper. As such, her responsibilities will include working with the Department of Human Resources to promote the well-being of Canadian seniors.
Minister Wong is well-positioned for her new role, having a great compassion for the elderly as evidenced by her championing of numerous seniors' causes. Among her initiatives has been working against elder abuse and scams designed to take advantage of seniors, promoting enhancements to the Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS), and seeking improved pedestrian safety.
Richmond seniors will know her as a familiar face at breakfasts and other events addressing the unique issues that affect Canadians.
